People wear clothes not only to cover their bodies and retain warmth but to express themselves. Clothes can convey feelings and emotions. Outfits can help people interpret feelings like tiredness or energy within fabric, colors, patterns, and cuts without having a real conversation. In 2024, there are many styles and trends that allow people to be unique. These trends are reflected in public spaces like schools and events where people wear the same type of shoes or sweatshirts. At Bernardsville High School in the 2024-2025 school year, many trends are gaining popularity in everyday school.
Currently, brands like White Fox and Brandy Melville are easily spotted throughout the school.
Recently, a big wave of Adidas sneakers flooded social media where Sambas, Campus 00s, and Gazelles caught the attention of millions of people. With multiple colors to choose from, it has become a staple shoe to add a pop of color to outfits this fall. Olivia Puccinelli ‘25 finds a lot of students wearing UGG boots as well, especially the Minis. UGG Minis are sheepskin moccasin boots cut right at the ankle and are an easy choice for a laid-back day. Going along with accessories, Maria Kolarov ‘28 says she sees “a lot of claw clips and golden hoop earrings” this year. Claw clips are an easy way to tie hair back without a rubber band and can be used as a hair accessory as well.
Since the start of autumn, days have been getting colder which calls for warm and cozy outfits to wear. As autumn starts, are sweaters or sweatshirts more popular? According to Kolarov, she sees more people wearing sweatshirts, but depending on the day some sweaters are worn.
A Monday is more likely to be a day full of sweatshirts crowding the halls, but a Friday would be a better day to look for some sweaters. Jeans, leggings, and sweatpants dominate the field of bottoms similarly to last year. However, Puccinelli says, “Last year a lot of people wore vests but [she doesn’t] see them anymore.” As we get into the colder seasons some trends get left behind while others still thrive within the school, new trends arrive, and the whole cycle starts over again.
Picking an outfit in the morning helps students start the day off right. Kolarov says that “most students are prioritizing what’s comfortable for them” and Puccinelli says that “this school is more relaxed” concluding that students mostly wear cozy outfits that allow them to go about their day with ease. Comfy outfits are often deemed to be “careless” outfits that were put together last minute, however, students have found a way to incorporate comfort into their favorite outfits.
With the spread of social media over the past few years, there are so many fashion trends spread out around the world giving people opportunities to find what they like. It’s not uncommon for people to wear similar clothes as the people they admire. Every month a certain trend gets recognized by millions of people, attracting them to start wearing similar clothes.
