The first season of Outer Banks was originally released on April 14, 2020, and has gradually released the following three seasons over the past three years. It has become one of the most popular shows to come out on Netflix, because of its mysterious yet thrilling plotlines that have kept fans binging the show while waiting for the new seasons to come out. The fourth season has recently been released on Netflix and was split into two parts. The first part released on the streaming service on October 10, and the second part will be on November 7. The show follows John B and his friend’s journey as they search for gold. Its unique dynamic makes fans ask for more. Amongst these fans is Brigid Duff ‘28 who shares that, “The show interested me because lots of people told me it was good and it was interesting so I decided to watch it and I was immediately hooked by the plotlines.”
Netflix has recently begun to split its show into multiple parts to keep viewers interested and ensure they continue to watch. This has struck up some annoyance among fans.
Duff is one of these fans. She went on to say “I don’t like that Netflix split it into two parts because it did make it kinda hard to follow and it was confusing when the show came to a sudden end… I definitely do think it affected my engagement because I couldn’t really follow the plot. Now I have to wait til November to really understand what happened.”
The fourth season follows the Pogues after their adventure in El Dorado. The Pouges finally have found gold and are no longer fighting for money. Once they return to the island, they have to figure out how to spend this money, which leads to a whole other world of trouble. When they finally have money one would think the Pouges would know exactly what they want to do with the money and spend it wisely. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen, leading them to start their next journey which includes a search for a new treasure
Every season of the show follows the Pogues trying to obtain money every way they can, with new adventures causing new conflicts while adding additional characters. Although plotlines may seem repetitive to some viewers, it doesn’t stop them from returning to watch their new expeditions.
Maya Itzhaki ‘28 has watched and enjoyed all four seasons of the show so far. She comments “I think it interests me because it’s kinda like summer vibes, and their friend group is really close, and that kinda makes you wanna learn more about the characters and how they go through things together.”
There have been many different opinions since the release of the new season. Some fans are living for the new season and the new thrill it brings, while other fans prefer past seasons. Audiences’ opinions vary based on each season’s plot and how much it grabbed their attention.
Itzhaki goes on to say. “I think season one [was my favorite], that’s when it was all new, and I feel like when you’re first introduced to it, it’s more entertaining.”
While many people are irritated with the fourth season being split into two parts, Itzhaki has mixed feelings about it. “It’s good because it gives you anticipation, but it’s really annoying because you have to wait so long.”
The success of season four of Outer Banks was huge, and shortly made Netflix’s top ten after arriving online for viewers. Even though audiences have mixed reviews about the latest season, the show remains to be a crowd-pleaser amongst many. Its engaging conflicts keep the fans listening and entertained, as well as seeing the Pogues face new challenges.
