After last year’s success with Lend Me A Tenor, the BHS thespians return with another farce: Rumors by Neil Simon. This show is packed with drama, suspense, and hilarious misunderstandings—perfect for anyone who loves chaotic absurdity.
The play features five boys and five girls portraying wealthy couples in the late 80s. A night of dinner and celebration spirals into chaos when the host is found bleeding and unconscious with no explanation. As only half the cast knows about the incident, they frantically try to hide it from the others, leading to a series of misunderstandings and laugh-out-loud moments. Inconvenient injuries, panicky phone calls, and even the occasional screaming fit make this play all too memorable. The actors deliver punchlines so flawlessly, that they seem irreplaceable.
One of the leads, Ken Gorman, is played by 11th-grader Daniel Christie. Although it’s his first BHS production, he’s been acting since second grade. Ken serves as the stabilizer of the play, trying to keep everyone focused after discovering the unconscious host. Daniel shares, “The more we work on Rumors, the more faith I have in its success.” He also notes, “It’s great to be back on stage with a friendly and supportive cast I’ve never worked with before.”
While Ken is the anchor, Leonard Ganz, played by 10th grader Nate DeNicola, is the chaos. His frantic energy and sharp one-liners keep the action rolling. Nate delivers every joke with unrelenting confidence and credits the cast for their strong dynamic. “It’s a great cast and crew, and exploring such an extensive set has been my favorite part,” DeNicola says.
Although Daniel and Nate are highlighted, every performer brings a unique talent to this production.
Nate acknowledges, “Every performer does their part in making this a comedic and entertaining experience.” The amount of time that these students have spent at rehearsal deserves to be recognized, as the cast and crew have come so far from where they started.
Audiences can see the show on November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with performances on Friday at 7:00 PM, Saturday at 7:00 PM, and Sunday at 2:00 and 7:00 PM. People who wish to show the cast and crew should come and support the hard-working students of Rumors.
