On November 27th, Bernards Girl Up Club will host its annual fundraiser, the ‘Cookie Walk’. Cookies will be sold in the glass hallway on the half day before Thanksgiving. This year, all proceeds go to the United Nations Foundation. Cookies will come in many varieties as each member of the club will be bringing a box of cookies each. To buy, a box is five dollars and can be filled up with any combination of cookies available.

Girl Up Club is perfect for anyone who loves giving to the community near them as well as the world. According to the Girl Up website, “Girl Up is a girl-centered leadership and development initiative.” It is dedicated to helping girls’ health, safety, and education. Girl Up is a movement underneath the United Nations Foundation that impacts girls worldwide in 152 countries and 50 U.S. states.

The money from the sale will be donated to the UNF this year like previous years (excluding 2023). The United Nations Foundation is the foundation that financially supports the Girl Up club in BHS as well as all the other Girl Up clubs across the United States. Abigail Sebastian ‘25, one of the board members of the Girl Up club said that “they help donate to a lot of world issues.” There is no specific cause that the money will be going to; however, it is ensured that the money will be going to a greater cause. “Girl Up club is about being an active member of the global community” says Sebastian ‘25. This ‘Cookie Walk’ is perfectly correlating with Girl Up because they are giving cookies to the nearby community while donating to the world.

New member Isabella Pagnotta ‘28 will be helping out with the fundraiser for the first time this year. Like many of her other friends, Pagnotta decided to join the fundraiser because she thought that “it would be a fun way to raise money.” This is Girl Up’s biggest fundraiser of the year, so the club is doing everything they can to advertise. Each volunteer at the fundraiser will be working together to sell cookies. Volunteers are also excited to buy cookies for a good cause. “I’m so excited to buy the frosted sugar cookies!” exclaims Pagnotta ‘28. While cookies will come in many different flavors, it is not assured that they will be allergy safe, so volunteers are urging people to be careful with their purchase. While there is a surplus of items to sell in order to raise money, Girl Up chose cookies because “everyone likes cookies” according to Sebastian ‘25.

Members of the Girl Up club are urging everyone to stop by their cookie stand on Wednesday, November 27th. Each box of cookies bought will help end poverty, support inequality, and save the planet. The UNF will be putting the money to good use because “we know that this foundation has helped us do Girl Up for years” says Sebastian ‘25. Be sure to check out the ‘Cookie Walk’ being held in the glass hallway on the 27th to support Girl Up.
