Following an impressive season last year, the swim team is hoping for another great season. Gabby Valente’ 27 expressed her enjoyment that comes from being on the swim team, “The atmosphere around the team is great, and I love being a part of the team. Bernards girls basketball: ~Last season, the girls basketball team here at BHS advanced to the second round of the county tournament after going 12-11 on the season. Although they were happy to have had a winning record last season, the team is hoping to surpass expectations this year and advance farther in the postseason. “After a solid season last year, the varsity team is hoping to advance far in the playoffs and win a title.”-Ellie Hill’ 27 Part of what makes this team so good is the leadership and talent that the senior class possesses. The seniors are full of lots of outstanding players including Ella Damratoski, Alexa Paterno, and Morgan Infusino. Coach Biscanti is heading into his 5th season at BHS, and he will be determined to win. Good luck to the girls basketball team in their up and coming season.
Bernards Boys Basketball- Coach Johnson’s first season as basketball head coach last season was a success. He led them to a 15-10 season and a division championship for the first time since 2018 as well as a sectional semi final run. A senior heavy led team saw big contributing players leave like Conor Laverty, Logan Marks, and Gabe Morales. With only three seniors playing this season the team looks to be a junior led team. Captain Monte Douglass and Zach Marto are looking to pave the way for this young team. With Monte being the only player with meaningful varsity minutes, lots of new roles will be made. Sophomore Marshall Douglass will also be looking at his first Varsity season. Both douglass brothers will look to lead the team to their second straight division championship. Facing a new division after being bumped up to play teams like Del Val, and Boundbrook it just adds another challenge that this young squad will take head on and is ready to get going.
Wrestling: Another senior heavy led team which saw Nick Villani, Charlie Hunnewell, and Jake Caldwell all depart as well as Coach Brothers retiring. Bernards Wrestling is ready for a new chapter. With new head coach Mike Filieri and new captains seniors David Silva, and Anthony Caceres looking to take the program to new heights. With key senior departures, underclassmen like Nolan Walsh, Chase Caponigro, and Jordan Riley are looking to step up and play an important role in the success of the wrestling team this season.
