The Bernardsville High School ski team has been very successful throughout the years. The team has had an impressive past considering they have placed in the top ten and top 3 many times and have even qualified for states.

While the ski team has only been founded for a little over a decade, the skiers have made up for the short history with dedication and passion for the sport.

They have proven that with passion and love for the slopes, anything is possible.

With such a short history, the BHS ski team has continued to grow throughout the years, not only in team members but has grown with prestigious skill and dedication due to Coach Johnson.

The team trains hard throughout the week whether it’s workouts in the gym and weight room, or taking a trip to nearby ski resorts such as mountain creek, Shawnee Mountain, and more.

Competition days are electric. Either early in the morning or after school, the team takes a bus to the mountain in which the competition takes place. The team members are always excited, looking forward to racing down the mountain.

This excitement leads to great accomplishments.

The ski team has had outstanding seasons, with several podium finishes at regional races and a standout performance at the New Jersey Interscholastic Ski Racing Championships. The amount of work that the student athletes put into training in and out of school shows their dedication. And their dedication truly takes off the day of the races.

However, the ski team is more than just winning the races. The team shows extreme respect and inclusivity to everyone.

If someone was thinking of joining the ski team the coach and all members highly encourage it as they are always looking for new members. They bond using the time they have together, whether it’s on the bus on the way to the mountain or just at practice, forming friendships and memories that are truly priceless.

Valentina Christen ‘26, a member  of the Ski Team described her favorite memory of the season so far, citing the “first race of the season” as a “truly special moment”. Christen was amazed by the way underclassmen “caught on to the rules of the circus that is a high school ski race”.

One of the freshman who has caught on quickly is Emmet Lukes. Lukes ‘28 spoke on the positive affects the upperclassmen have had on his experience on the team.

Lukes said, “The upperclassment have included me in many activities and helped me understand the sport better.”

Over the offseason, the Ski Team has made efforts to raise money for the program through various fundraisers including a movie fundraiser on December 3rd.

The movie fundraiser showed three different movies all in an attempt to get people in the ski season spirit and raise money for the program.
