Canadian Singer/Songwriter Tate McRae is releasing her third album, So Close To What. The album is set to release on February 21st, 2025. It will contain 15 new songs, excluding two songs that have been pre-released.
Two songs from So Close To What were released earlier this year which brought lots of excitement to fans. The songs are titled, “It’s ok I’m ok”, which was released September 12th, 2024, and “2 hands”, which was released November 14, 2024. Considering both of these songs were huge successes, there is a high expectation for the rest of the album.
Following the new album, McRae will start her “Miss Possessive” tour on March 18th, 2025. The tour starts in Mexico City and will head to many different countries around the world, and ultimately end in Los Angeles in mid-September 2025. This will be the first time any songs from “So Close To What” are performed live. Lexa Paperiello 2028 says she, “already has tickets to go to her concert in September once her new album is out” and that she thinks, “her new album will be better cause she is in a new relationship with a better person.”
McRae is currently 21 years old but has been growing in the media for years. She first gained fame when she became the first-ever Canadian finalist on the reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance at the age of 13. From there, McRae became gained many more fans through social media. What year? she released her first single, “You Broke Me First”, a song about her ex-boyfriend wanting to rekindle their relationship. In May of 2022 two years later, at the age of 18, she released her first-ever album, titled “I Used To Think I Could Fly.”
McRae has partnered with RCA (Radio Corporation of America) for all her albums. She will also be working with them for So Close to What.
McRae is currently dating rapper and singer/songwriter The Kid Laroi. They have been together since the beginning of 2024. Considering this will be her first album release since she started dating The Kid Laroi, fans are expecting the new songs to be centered around their relationship. There is also speculation that some songs will be written about her ex-boyfriend and Canadian ice hockey player, Cole Spillinger. Both pre-released songs support these theories.
“It’s ok I’m ok” warns McRae’s ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend that while he may seem great, he isn’t, while also assuring everyone that she has moved on and is doing great without him in her life. The other release, “2 hands” is written about The Kid Laroi and their new relationship. In an interview with journalist Lucy Smith, McRae states that “2 hands” is her, “first time writing a love-ish song” and that her fans, “have been waiting forever”. She then goes on to talk about how she feels like she has entered a new era of singing.
Fans are extremely excited to see what this new album will hold, and everyone can’t wait for the new release and new tour.
