After replacing original Live host four years ago, Regis Philbin, Michael Strahan has decided to leave Live! with Kelly and Michael. Strahan will stay with the network, taking on a full-time position on Good Morning America. Following the news, co-host Kelly Ripa skipped Wednesday and Thursday’s taping. A source close to the talk show host says Ripa feels betrayed because she had “put her neck out for Michael to be apart of the show four years ago,” revealing that Ripa does not enjoy the show anymore. The pair had not been getting along well lately, and the source says, “this takes the cake.”
On Friday night, Ripa sent an email to the staff of Live! confirming she will return to the show on Tuesday. “I wanted to thank you all for giving me the time to process this information,” she wrote, “your kindness, support and love has overwhelmed me. We are a family and I look forward to seeing you all Tuesday morning. Love, Kelly.” The email comes a day after the same source says Ripa has been giving her LiveI co-workers radio-silence.
Strahan is excited to see Ripa come back, another source saying “he was prepared to go on by himself if he had to, but he is relieved it all worked out.” Strahan had reportedly been trying to reach out to Ripa following the announcement, saying he understood why she was mad. Strahan announced on LiveI that Kelly would be back on Tuesday, adding “which we are all excited about.” When Ripa returned to Live!, she started off by saying “our long national nightmare is over.” She talked about communication and respect in the workplace, and continued on with the show. Strahan will leave the show in September, but the pair will continue working alongside each other.
