On Tuesday September 21, the Girls Soccer team travelled to Mount Saint Mary Academy and won 1-0. Although games in the past have been close, this was the first win against Mount Saint Mary since 2015. Junior Sydney Incarnato scored the winning goal in double overtime with an assist from Senior Katie Walsh, and Freshman goalie Kayla Davi saved 15 shots. The Bernards Girls Soccer program is moving in the right direction with a 6-2 record, and gaining more momentum with every win.
While speaking with Kayla, she discussed her excitement about the win, saying “When Sydney scored I was in shock, we had all odds stacked against us and we pulled it off. It was an unreal feeling, after competing for so long, and so hard we finally got it,” she explained. So far, Kayla has saved a total of 84 shots this season, and is continuing to prove herself each time she steps on the field.
Constantly being considered the underdogs, Bernards showed up and surprised Mount St. Mary. Bernards is going to play Mount Saint Mary again, on October 12, at the BMS turf. The team agrees it is going to be a tough game, but they believe that they will win again, and they are going to prove that they are not a team to overlook.
In an interview with Sydney she shared, “We have to come out, win an even intense fight and be stronger. It is going to be an intense game, and we need to be hungrier.” Just this season she has scored 7 goals and had 4 assists for Bernards.
Although it was a close game, the team is stronger and will win again. With only ten regular games left in the season, the team also is about to start competing in county games. Although most of the games left are new teams, they also have some games with teams that they played before with close games. The more notable teams are Voorhees, Mount Saint Mary, and North Plainfield.
