Homecoming took place on Friday October 15th, and the theme for the game was Pink Out. The nominated Homecoming Court was Aoife Flaherty, Carmen Stanley, Dane Costabile, Dylan Crain, Kalea Rivera, and Zach Brown. The Homecoming Royalty winners were seniors Dane and Carmen. One change fans saw for Homecoming this year was the winners being called Royalty, when in past years the two winners were named “Homecoming King and Queen.”
Dane Costabile shared, “I was really excited to find out I won. Going into it and not knowing was a little nerve racking for sure, but it turned out to be super fun in the end. Truthfully the main reason I wanted to win was because I knew my mom would be really excited.”
In an interview with Carmen Stanley, she explained, “I was really surprised that I was nominated, and I did not think I was going to win!”
With the regular season soon ending, and only three home games in the season, Senior Carson Ruggia noted, “Every game is amazing to run out on the field and see all of my friends and parents cheering on all of us, the spirit is amazing!”
The Football Team played Voorhees and won 33-0 making it their fifth win this year and a record of 5-2. Bernards had four touchdowns; two from Senior Aidan Brown, another one from Senior Michael Leanza, and the fourth from Sophomore Jake Caldwell.
In an interview with Aidan he shared how he felt about the game, “I feel that any game at this point is important to win, due to the fact that we are in a 3-way tie for first with Del Val and Hillside.” Aidan has had a great season so far with seven total touchdowns, and looks to add more against South River and Middlesex.
Another Senior interviewed was Michael Leanza, and when asked how he felt when he stepped on the field Friday Night, he said, “I was confident. We come out each week with a game plan tailored to our matchup. I have faith in both myself and my teammates to play a focused game and that is why we win.” Leanza added onto his impressive 2021 campaign by eclipsing over 1,000 yards on the season.
