The boys soccer team has been off to an amazing start this season going, 8-1 through their first 9 games. They have had 6 games end in a shutout and at most only allowing 1 goal, thanks to goalkeeper Giancarlo Acosta-Jimenez. Junior Fin Spitaleri leads the team with 10 goals, followed by Junior Adan Chaparro, Senior Llanez Ivan, and Freshman Jaykob Marquez with 4 goals each.
The soccer team rematched Somerville on the 27th, who defeated them in the first game of the season, giving Bernards their one and only loss. In the rematch they dominated, winning 2-0 with another shut out. Goals from Fin Spitaleri and Elliot Buzby helped propel the win.
On September 29th, they faced Bound Brook, who they beat earlier in the season, 3-0. In the rematch they were perfect winning 6-0. Fin Spitaleri had 2 goals, along with a goal each from Llanez Ivan, Charlie Giebel, Elliot Buzby, and Carlos Thompson.
Senior goalie Giancarlo Acosta-Jimenez shared how the team “worked very hard [in] rain or shine” and they kept the season opener loss “in the back of [their] minds every game using it as motivation.”
The Boys soccer team has very high hopes and expectations for the rest of the season, as they “obviously would want to win States or Counties” and the “goal as a team is to go as far as possible”. The team is clearly determined to get back to the state championship and have been on a roll throughout the first half of the season, on the way there.
The boys have 5 games left, rematching Delaware Valley on October 4th, Warren Hills on the 6th, and Vorhees on the 8th. They face Hunterdon Central and North Hunterdon for the first time in the last 2 games of the season, on the 11th and 19th.
