The Unexpected and Complicated Relationship of Yung Gravy and Sheri Nicole
Divorce leads people to different places. Some people are led to personal growth, emotional changes, etc. To Sheri Nicole, TikTok star Addison Rae’s mother, it led her to Yung Gravy.
Both Sheri and Yung Gravy hit it off after Sheri Nicole’s ex-husband, Monty Lopez, found himself under fire after a cheating scandal. It had been revealed by several young women (one allegedly being only nineteen years old) that he had been engaging in inappropriate activity over messages and in person. This put the entire family under the spotlight, since the internet wanted to see how they would react. As a result, Sheri Nicole publicly split with Lopez, which created a window of opportunity for Gravy to make his move.
This man happens to be 26 year old rapper named Matthew Raymond Hauri, who is most commonly known by stage name “Yung Gravy.” He is most known for his humorous yet catchy songs and has built a brand of himself for liking older women. This explains his attraction towards Nicole, considering their 17 year age difference. It has been seen that the two would often flirt with each other in TikTok videos and message publicly in the comments. However, no one could predict how much their relationship would escalate.
On August 28, 2022, the VMA’s took place, and Yung Gravy took no one other than Sheri Nicole as his plus one. There was already lots of buzz around Yung Gravy, as his song “Betty (Get Money),” a fun spinoff of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” was climbing up the charts. All this attention only rocketed when the two could be seen kissing in their seats throughout the night.
The day after, all the internet seemed to be able to talk about was the two of them. Speculations about their relationship circulated everywhere online, yet no one seemed to be as affected by these events as Monty Lopez. He started to spiral, frantically posting videos asking Gravy to fight. In response, the rapper simply stated in a video: “I’m a grown man, and I’m not gonna fight you over TikTok drama. You’ve got one of the most successful daughters in the world, and you decide to act half her age to try to get some attention, while embarrassing your whole family. So grow up, get some help, and if we cross paths in real life, don’t do anything stupid.”
This video brought tons of support towards Yung Gravy, Sheri Nicole, and most importantly, Addison Rae. Rae stated multiple times how uncomfortable and overwhelmed the situation has made her, even saying she felt “mortified” by the headlines. She remained mostly silent towards the drama but unfollowed both her parents on social media. Fans have expressed their support towards her and sympathize with her struggles. It is hard enough to deal with family issues on your own, but even harder with the whole world watching.
Nicole, however, has not taken the unfollow nicely. She has recently used social media as an outlet for her disappointment, tweeting seemingly targeted messages such as “Parents endure so much pain. Especially when they’ve only ever wanted good for their children. Sending love to any and all moms who struggle.” She also changed her TikTok and Instagram bio to “I’ll be your mom, not your doormat.” The act of Nicole taking family issues to social media has been controversial and has led fans to question her parenting abilities.
Before the drama took place, Addison and Sheri seemed inseparable. Sheri was always seen supporting Addison in videos and being there for her during her rise to fame. Taking this into account, it is understandable why their fans feel upset over their conflict.
Today, Sheri Nicole and Yung Gravy are still going strong as an official couple. However, with the amount of drama that has occurred in such a short period of time, the trajectory of their relationship is unpredictable. It is also arguable whether the relationship is even worth it, after observing how it has affected Sheri Nicole’s personal, professional, and family life.
