It’s the start of yet another season! However this year things are a little different for teams here at BHS. For the first time in Bernards High history, the students have put together a female volleyball team. For years now, it has only run as a club, meeting just a couple times a week in the upper gym. It has much improved, because the school has been able to fill in the missing gaps needed to build an actual lineup to produce a thriving outcome. Especially with COVID-19’s effect, it has been considerably more difficult to gather information and put together a roster, but with impressive movement and hard work an actual change has been made. Coaches Rick and Britanny Gajewski have generously volunteered their time to run and manage a substantial group of girls.
On Friday, September 2nd, Bernards High School JV Volleyball team had their first ever scrimmage. They played competitively against the Academy of Saint Elizabeth and put up a hard fight, despite undergoing a close loss. Bernards volleyball can be that much more admired for the reason that it’s their first year running a team. Additionally, a team that was founded by the students of BHS. Fortunately for the fans and students of the Mountaineers, they will encounter many more teams in their progressive schedule. These teams include Warren Hills, Delaware Valley, Morristown Beard, Parsippany, Immaculata, and many more. With that being said, the first Bernards jv win was against Morris Catholic. Bernards closed with a booming score of 25-21. This win took place on Friday, September 23rd. Morgan Infusino expresses the love and commitment she feels the team has had over the course of the past couple of weeks, she expresses,
“Our volleyball team is building a program. We have nothing to lose and everything is improving day by day. We’re simply learning how to play, and it’s pretty exciting to see how far our team has come with just a couple weeks under our belt.”
Most recently, on Tuesday, September 27th, both Bernards JV and Varsity played Bound Brook High School. This match took place home, in the BHS upper gym. Fans showed up for the teams and had an impact support wise. With that being said the two groups of girls were successful and secured the win.
