The 2022 FIFA World Cup begins
The much anticipated 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from Sunday, November 20th to Sunday, December 18th. Over a twenty-eight day period, thirty-two teams will be competing in sixty-four different matches for the title.
The World Cup began in 1930 and was first held in Montevideo, Uruguay. Back then, only thirteen teams competed for the title over a seventeen day period, with Uruguay and Argentina being the last teams standing. The final game was incredibly close. Argentina was in the lead for the first half of the game, but in the end, with a score of 4-2, Uruguay beat Argentina and became the first ever winners of the World Cup.
This year, the first match will be at 11:00 am ET on November 20th, with Qatar up against Ecuador. Qatar has never competed in the World Cup before, so many people hope they will win their first match. Both teams have a fair shot at winning this match, so fans are split between who they think will beat who.
Because the World Cup is only held every four years, many people are excited to see who emerges victorious this year. Fans speculate that Brazil will be the overall winner, as the team has an incredibly successful track record. They were champions of the World Cup a record-breaking five times: in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. On the other hand, France won the most recent World Cup in 2018 and are expected to do well again during this tournament.
People all over the world have high hopes for this year’s World Cup. Bets are being made frantically as the start of the tournament grows closer, and fans of every team are dreaming of their success. No matter who wins the title, viewers everywhere are simply excited to watch their favorite teams compete against each other again.
