The rivalry between Bernards and Ridge is one that many people are aware of. Whenever the two schools meet each other, competition is always present; especially in athletics. When teams from each school play each other, it is always enthralling for each school to see which one is better. Earlier this year when both school’s girls varsity soccer teams found out they were going against one another it became an anticipated game. When it became time for the two schools to play each other it was a very competitive game, and the Ridge Red Devils won 2-0 scoring both goals late into the second half. After the loss, the Bernards girl’s team were eager to face Ridge again.
Both teams will meet again later in the year on September 17th, however this time it will be no ordinary game. Instead, this game will be played in Red Bull Stadium with an expectancy of around 1,000 spectators. The girl’s soccer team was just one of three other teams chosen for this opportunity, and even better, they were matched up against their rival who were a part of their few losses last season.
With this opportunity, there will be full access to the professional locker rooms, an entrance out of the locker rooms, and announcers. The team is looking to sell tickets for this event starting March 13. Tickets will range from $32 to $74 depending on where spectators choose to sit. In total, the team is looking to sell around $22,000 worth of tickets for this event, but in total both teams are looking for a combined $45,000 worth of tickets. RedBull will be offering assistance in marketing via social media, sending links to local residences promoting the event, and a few other advertising opportunities.
Players are also taking initiative by coming up with ways to promote this event. The team is looking to post flyers around school, post links on social media, and are thinking about putting advertisements up in town for more exposure. Coach Boudreau also wants people to “stay tuned for a fire hype video.” The girl’s soccer team is already very thrilled about this game.
Captain Mckenah Schilp ‘24 says, “when coach told me that we had the chance of playing in the Red Bull stadium, it was hard to keep it a secret from the team. I am so excited I get the chance to play there during my senior season, and to see all of the fans!” Mckenah is not the only member of the team excited to play. Once the team found out about this opportunity an immediate flow of advertisement ideas began, and moreover the eagerness to play in a professional stadium.
Andee Costabile ‘25 shares, “I know a lot of us get nervous for games at Olcott, so I can’t even imagine the anxiety that’s gonna circulate on the bus to RedBull Arena. Nevertheless, I am so excited to experience such an amazing opportunity with so many of my best friends! We hope the Red Sea can pack the stands!” The whole team can agree with her on that statement.
Keep an eye out for QR codes posted on the player’s social media and around the community. The link will be easily accessible and will only take a few minutes to purchase the tickets. Help support your girl’s soccer team by purchasing a ticket, and by coming out to support them on September 17th!
