“Outer Banks” season 3 premiered on February 23, and this season was full of suspense, adventure, and drama. “Outer Banks” fans were super excited to watch season 3 after the previous season was left on a cliffhanger. The end of season 2 showed the six pogues stranded on a remote island with no outside contact with no way out after escaping from Sarah’s father, Ward.
In season 3, the teens embarked on the greatest treasure hunt so far. This time, the quest would take them to the “lost city of gold,” commonly known as El Dorado. Of course, nothing runs smoothly and not everyone makes it out alive. The teens faced many challenges over the course of time, and encountered seemingly impossible tasks.
This season, new villains were introduced along the way, stirring up the drama and keeping viewers on their toes. Betrayal, anger, and distrought were all brought among the characters this season, and relationships were almost broken along the way because of stupid mistakes and meaningless hookups. Sophia Fazel ‘26 explained, “I thought the new season was very intense and very adventurous. I liked it, but also looking back to season 1 it didn’t have the same vibe of having fun with your friends, and they were barely all together having fun throughout the new season. It was overall very good!”
When looking back at the first two seasons, it seems that over time the characters lose touch with reality and are embarking on the adventures for the wrong reasons. This continues into season 3, and after searching for treasure for so long, the teens forget how to actually live a normal teen life.
Even though most of the viewers fairly enjoyed this season, some “Outer Banks” fans didn’t really enjoy it as much as they did other seasons. Some viewers agree that the drop in quality was dramatic, and it didn’t seem that the writers put a lot of effort into this season as they did season one and two. The writers of the third season fail to handle the large cast, resulting in flimsy writing and a poorly put together plot that make the show hard to follow.
“I thought it was kinda bad and it lacked a plot like season 1 and 2. But other than that I don’t remember anything else from this season because it was very boring” says Julie Lund ‘26.
The stars in the show disagree with what fans were saying about season 3, and think that this season was the best season yet on the show. A quote from one of the stars in season 3, Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara Carrera, agrees that “it’s a heartfelt ending. People can expect to get a little bit of peace for everyone’s characters. We don’t need to worry about them for once. Maybe just for a second, everything can be okay. There’s a great sense of peace at the end of the season.” Despite this season’s minor flaws, you should definitely give season 3 a watch!
