Crimson Staff Senior Scarlett Campbell: Opinions Editor

Q: What made you join journalism?
A: I chose to join journalism because I have always loved to write. Not only do I enjoy writing and English class, but I really appreciate the amount of freedom we have as journalism students. We get to pick out what we want to write about and it also is a great opportunity to keep up with the news and current events.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about journalism?
A: My favorite thing about journalism is writing opinion articles as I enjoy researching both sides of an argument and being able to express my opinion freely.
Q: What has been your favorite article you have written?
A: The article I am most proud of is A student’s perspective on the national teacher crisis.
Q: Are you pursuing journalism after high school?
A: I am not pursuing journalism in college.
Q: Why did you choose to be an opinion editor?
A: I chose to be an opinion editor because it is my favorite genre to write. As an editor, I enjoy helping writers express their opinions in a respectful and intelligent manner.
Q: What are your plans for after high school?
A: I am attending Boston University in the fall as a psychology major on a pre-law track.
Q: How has journalism helped you as a student?
A: Journalism has helped me as a student in several different ways. Particularly, it has helped me learn to respect deadlines, research properly, express my opinion in a respectful way, and write in a composed way.
Q: What advice would you give first year journalism students?
A: I would tell first-year journalism students to stick with the program. Mrs. Hunkele is an amazing teacher and gives students a lot of freedom, but is very supportive at the same time.
